Post High School Scholarships

We sponsor four $500 scholarships for high school students who have the desire to continue their studies beyond high school.  Preference will be given to those choosing to study in an area related to LCI (Lions Club International) vision of service areas.  Students enrolled in medical fields relating to cancer, vision, speech and hearing. diabetes or in areas of helping the environment or law enforcement.

PROJECTS AND INITIATIVES

VISION SCREENINGS

Each year, we organize and screen thousands of children at local schools. We work with the school nurses to coordinate teams of volunteers, who do an initial sight evaluation. The American Optometric Association says nearly 80% of children's learning happens visually, so our work in this area is vitally important.

STUDENT AND YOUTH

The Bloomington Lions Club has sponsored two Little League teams for years, and each year we go cheer them on when they play each other. We also work with the Lions Law Camp, providing funds and supplies for the students.

PARTNERSHIP WITH IU OPTOMETRY SCHOOL

Throughout the year, our Club collects used eyeglasses, which we send on to our central collection in the state. The glasses are mended and sorted and then organizations such as the students from IU Optometry School use them in their free clinic in Mexico. To see where you can donate keys, check our location page.

COMMUNITY SUPPORT

We have regular fundraisers in order to give those funds back to the community: Community Kitchen, MCUM, Backstreet Missions, Salvation Army, Shalom Center, Habitat for Humanity, Middle Way House, Martha's House, Red Cross, and VIPS have received this funding in the past year. We've also contributed our time and talents to agencies such as Homeward Bound and the Children's Farm Festival at Peden Farms.
